Back pain (also known "dorsalgia") is pain felt in the back that may originate from the muscles, nerves, bones, joints or other structures in the spine.
The pain may have a sudden onset or it can be a chronic pain, it can be felt constantly or intermittently, stay in one place or refer or radiate to other areas. It may be a dull ache, or a sharp or piercing or burning sensation. The pain may be felt in the neck (and might radiate into the arm and hand), in the upper back, or in the low back, (and might radiate into the leg or foot), and may include symptoms other than pain, such as weakness, numbness or tingling.
Back pain is one of humanity's most frequent complaints. In the U.S., acute low back pain (also called lumbago) is the fifth most common reason for all physician visits. About nine out of ten adults experience back pain at some point in their life, and five out of ten working adults have back pain every year.

Neck Pain Upon Waking Up - What You Can Do to Help

No matter how they are only two things that can cause your neck to hurt worse in the morning than if you went to bed. These two things are:

1) your pillow

2) The position you sleep in

or both.

If you increase the burden on the tissue of the neck in the night, you will wake up with your neck injured in the morning. The above are the only two things that can do that while you sleep.

your pillow is often the key. If you sleep on your back all or most of the time, you want a thin pillow. Why? They do not want your head pushed all night. This leads to too much pressure on the tissue of the neck the whole night and you will wake up hurt.

If you sleep on your side all or most of the time, then you want a pillow that is large enough and business enough to keep your head and neck straight in line with your spine. When the pillow is too soft or too short to the head will fall. If the cushion is too big your head is pressed. Both are like walking around all day with the ear on your shoulder the whole day. Your head and neck must be precisely in line with your spine just like when you sitting or standing. The height and density of your pillows are what they control, if you sleep on your side.

If you sleep on your stomach you must sleep with your head on one side the whole night. It's like walking around all day with your head to one side. Try and see how you feel at the end of the day. Sleeping on your stomach will always cause this kind of neck problem, because they eventually causes excessive strain on the fabric over a longer period.

To the habit of sleeping on your stomach watching on a big pillow in front of you and you in the back or one on each side of you to prevent you from rolling either toward your belly. This will help to break the habit of sleeping on the stomach.

The above corrections will often solve the problem of neck pain when you wake up, if properly done, if you do not need professional help.
