Back pain (also known "dorsalgia") is pain felt in the back that may originate from the muscles, nerves, bones, joints or other structures in the spine.
The pain may have a sudden onset or it can be a chronic pain, it can be felt constantly or intermittently, stay in one place or refer or radiate to other areas. It may be a dull ache, or a sharp or piercing or burning sensation. The pain may be felt in the neck (and might radiate into the arm and hand), in the upper back, or in the low back, (and might radiate into the leg or foot), and may include symptoms other than pain, such as weakness, numbness or tingling.
Back pain is one of humanity's most frequent complaints. In the U.S., acute low back pain (also called lumbago) is the fifth most common reason for all physician visits. About nine out of ten adults experience back pain at some point in their life, and five out of ten working adults have back pain every year.

Chronic Back Pain Prevention

back pain can be either acute or chronic. The word "acute" in Latin origin, as the "needles". For example, acute back pain is usually a sudden, severe pain, sharp sensation. "Chronic" on the other side is a Greek word for "time". As connotative, chronic is usually persistent over a longer period of time, a dull and nagging unease, from months to years with a lengthy healing process. The back, with the work horse of the body is more vulnerable to pain and injury, whether it is tragically short-term or long term, if the treatment and preventive measures are not resorted to in the initial phase.

Eight out of ten people have back injuries at some point in their lives. It is not easy to manage and relieve chronic back pain because it is a subjective experience. Doctors can not objectively measure it, therefore, a thorough diagnosis can be challenging to get. It can be varied, feelings that can be stabbing, dull, throbbing, pulsating on shock-like, just to name a few. In fact, it can come not only from the muscles or bones, but from the nerves, blood vessels and organs as well. Acute and chronic back pain may be different ways of the nervous system in the body. Once your muscles or ligaments are injured, receptors gather the momentum and sending them to the spinal cord.

The pain then extends up to the brain and the whole process occurs in varying pace. In the acute type, the transmission of impulses to the spinal cord and up to the brain is usually faster whereas in chronic back pain, the whole process takes on a slower speed. Furthermore, chronic back pain influence on the limbic system of the brain that are related to emotional states, such as by experts. It is no wonder why it is accompanied by negative and upsetting emotions. Since it's sometimes too late, the best treatment is prevention - it is a good insurance, so to speak. When smooth muscle, such as muscles, the ligaments and tendons are injured, early treatment would be necessary to prevent them from aggravating weakness, decreased elasticity, and more than sensitivity.

For acute or chronic back pain, it may be useful to apply the heat to the painful areas. This can lead to complaints. Doing specific exercises can also be helpful. A hands-on techniques to alleviate acute or chronic back pain may also be one of the best methods to employ. Some of the techniques which they are ready to manipulate or mobilize the joints and soft tissues. This can be done by a properly chiropractic or osteopathic physician. Another one of the best preventive and relief measures, massage or physical therapy.

This would be weakened or damaged muscles and especially the core stabilizers. It may also be recommended that the application was filed in a heath club for a formal rehabilitation program.
